Automation and Efficiency in Component Management in Oracle Cloud Environments

With the increasing complexity of cloud architectures, keeping Oracle Cloud environments up to date and operating in a standardized manner is a constant challenge.

LACLS Maintenance Assistant was developed to meet precisely this need, a tool that automates the process of updating, deploying, and maintaining the components of the LACLS (Latin America Cloud Localization Services) solution across multiple Oracle cloud services.

Through an interface developed in Oracle APEX and integrations based on REST and WebServices, Maintenance Assistant provides centralized, secure, and efficient management of the entire LACLS component maintenance cycle.

  • Purpose and Overview of the Solution

LACLS Maintenance Assistant, currently in version 21.1.6.0, focuses primarily on simplifying and automating the deployment and management of LACLS component updates.

Developed in Oracle Application Express (APEX), the utility integrates directly with services such as:

  • Oracle Cloud Applications (SaaS)
  • Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)
  • Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS)
  • Business Intelligence (BI) Services

Through automated processes, Maintenance Assistant reduces manual effort and ensures standardization in updates performed across multiple environments.

  • Architecture and Integration between Services

Communication between the different components is performed by the native UTL_HTTP API, present in the Oracle database. This integration layer allows the application to interact with external services using secure HTTPS connections, ensuring confidentiality and integrity in data exchanges.

For Maintenance Assistant to operate correctly, all connected services must be accessible via HTTPS. If the database instance is located on a private subnet, access to public services such as SaaS, OIC, and VBCS must be ensured through appropriate network solutions, such as:

  • NAT Gateway, to enable controlled internet access;
  • Proxy service, to route communications securely;
  • Hybrid model, combining internal isolation with external connectivity.

Recommendation: Consult with the network architect responsible for the environment to define the best architectural approach, considering security, performance, and governance aspects.

  • Installation Requirements.

The installation and operation of LACLS Maintenance Assistant require that the customer have an Oracle Database Service, with the following options accepted:

  • Oracle Autonomous Database (ATP), or
  • Oracle Database Cloud Service (DBCS)

This requirement is mandatory, as the solution is developed in Oracle APEX and relies on native Oracle database features for execution, integration, and control of maintenance processes.

In addition to the Database Service, depending on the country and the LACLS components used, the customer will also need to include the following additional services:

  • Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) – for orchestration and integration between systems;
  • Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS) – for interface components, extensions, and functionalities;
  • File Server (SFTP) – for secure transfer of files, installation packages, and update artifacts.

The need for these services varies according to the legal, tax, and functional requirements of each country served by the LACLS solution and should be assessed in advance during the implementation planning phase.

After creating the instance, you must follow the configuration and preparation steps described in the official guides:

  • KB30093 – Latin America Localizations LACLS and LOGLS – Installation and Maintenance Notes • KB49004 – Latin America Cloud Local Solution (LACLS) Utilities

These documents provide detailed instructions on permissions, parameters, and integrations required for the tool to function correctly.

  • Best Practices for Implementation

To ensure stability, isolation, and traceability, it is highly recommended to install Maintenance Assistant on a dedicated instance.

However, it is also possible to install the tool on an existing instance.

In this scenario, it is recommended that the chosen environment be the production environment, sharing the same schema used by LACLS solutions, which ensures integrity between versions and components. After installation, it is possible to register different environments, such as:

  • Development (DEV)
  • Test (TEST)
  • Production (PROD)

This flexibility allows all updates and deployments to be managed centrally, reducing the risk of inconsistencies between environments.

  • Benefits and Added Value

The adoption of LACLS Maintenance Assistant brings significant gains in operational efficiency, security, and technical governance:

Appearance  Key Benefit
Automation  Reduces manual effort and component deployment time.
Standardization  Ensures consistency when updating multiple environments.
Traceability  Centralizes version and deployment history.
Secure Integration  Uses HTTPS connections and native Oracle authentication.
Scalability  Allows you to manage multiple environments and services in a single interface.

Conclusion

LACLS Maintenance Assistant has established itself as a robust and essential solution for companies using the Oracle Cloud ecosystem, promoting a modern and automated approach to LACLS component management.

Its integration capabilities, combined with automated deployments and centralized updates, make the tool a strategic pillar for support and systems architecture teams.

In a scenario where availability, compliance, and agility are competitive advantages, Maintenance Assistant represents a direct investment in efficiency and technological governance.
