CMAA migrates to Oracle cloud
With the change, Companhia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool achieved a 40% reduction in costs.
Companhia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool (CMAA) migrated and upgraded its systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with implementation carried out by EBS-IT, an Oracle partner based in São Paulo.
With the need to improve its processes to support and accelerate its plans and serve the market more quickly, the company began using the cloud environment free of charge in January of this year and conducted several tests over a three-month period.
According to the company, understanding how the cloud could help was essential to achieving improvements at all levels and in all areas.
“We ran several simulations and were pleasantly surprised to see how much performance improved. In addition, the cloud makes it easier for us to adapt everything to our demands and quickly increase or decrease resources,” says Alexandre da Silva, IT coordinator at CMAA.
After the migration was completed in June, information from the quality and development areas, as well as virtual machines, are hosted in the new environment.
With the change, the company highlights that it has achieved a 40% reduction in costs, in addition to not having to worry about problems that could occur with the old data centers, such as power outages or damage to equipment.
Previously, it was necessary to upgrade whenever the hardware reached its capacity limit, but today, the elasticity of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure allows for rapid adaptations.
“The interesting thing is that with the same amounts we used to invest in on-premises, we can now have more services within the same budget. With this, we have a kind of online self-service, we can think of new strategies and which services are best for our needs,” says Silva.
According to Oracle, helping companies like CMAA operate securely and flexibly is the greatest reward for working on public cloud projects.
“We are very proud of OCI and the role it plays in enabling innovation for our customers, bringing them greater agility and availability without creating any lock-in,” says Tennessee Howard, senior director at Oracle Cloud.
Founded in 1977 in Silicon Valley, Oracle became a publicly traded company in 1986. With more than 138,000 employees, it closed the 2019 fiscal year with total revenue of $39.5 billion.
CMAA was created in 2006 by the JF Citrus Group. Its first plant began operating in 2010, and in 2013, Indoagri, a multinational company based in Indonesia, acquired a 50% stake in the company.
The company currently has two operational plants, both in the Triângulo Mineiro region, with a milling capacity of 7.5 million tons, producing 1,950 m³ of ethanol and 2.5 tons of sugar daily.
