Oracle Open World was responsible for announcing several new features for the IT market. After unveiling Universal Credits and Autonomous Database, another highlight was the new version of Oracle Database Appliance (ODA), now featuring the X7-2 family.
Created in 2011, ODA is an immensely popular engineered system for Oracle Database customers, due to its simplicity of implementation, management and support. In recent years, it has also started to support the creation of virtual machines, making it possible to use different applications together with their respective databases. The new X7-2 distribution expands the possibilities of use, offering in the HA version support for Oracle Database Standard Edition One, Standard Edition or Standard Edition 2, disabling a processor to meet Oracle's licensing requirements for these cases.
The ODA X7-2 is an ideal "solution-in-a-box" for companies looking to avoid the complexity and high costs of "build your own" models . In addition, there are numerous expansion options for both storage and memory, allowing the solution to be scalable.
Some of the main updates in this version include:
- Intel Xeon Silver and Gold processors
- Increased number of colors
- Increased storage capacity
- 25 Gbps Ethernet (SFP28) networking, eliminating the use of Infiniband technology.
- Support for KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) virtualization
- RAC SE2
- Support for Oracle Database 12.2
KVM is one of the major new features introduced in this version. The Kernel-based Virtual Machine is a virtualization infrastructure based on the Linux kernel that turns it into a hypervisor, allowing applications to be used on "bare metal" deploys.
This latest generation includes the ODA X7-2S, ODA X7-2M and ODA X7-2- HA, discontinuing the ODA L model, which existed in the previous distribution.

The extremely competitive values of this equipment, combined with the flexibility of licensing and ease of implementation, consolidates the ODA X7-2 family as an Engineered System with possibilities to reach the most varied profiles of organizations.
