FEMALE LEADERSHIP IN IT - HOW DIVERSITY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE GROWTH OF ORGANIZATIONS

The technology sector is experiencing a new moment: in addition to technical performance, it has become necessary to look beyond this when it comes to building teams and promoting leaders. The inclusion of female leaders brings companies more empathy, creativity and plurality, because the more different points of view, the better the results. It's necessary to rethink strategies to create high-performance, multidisciplinary teams - after all, everyone wins.

Women have been conquering more space within technology companies, but they still represent only 37% of all professionals in the sector in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies (Brasscom). The challenge is greater when it comes to reaching leadership positions in these companies. According to an annual survey by the consultancy KPMG, in partnership with Harvey Nash, the participation of women in senior technology positions in Latin America currently stands at 16%. This percentage is significantly higher than the 4% female representation in these positions in countries such as the United Kingdom, and higher than the global average of 11%.

Today, women have a significant share in education and in the search for specialization. For example, 60% of Brazilians who do doctorates outside Brazil are women, according to the Center for Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE). Reducing the possible hostility of the job market and better integrating these candidates is an important strategy if technology and innovation are to have more and more brilliant minds to add and create.

Taking advantage of this theme, we held a chat with the female leaders of EBS-IT. Our leaders argued that the secret lies in professional qualifications in order to achieve good results and growth within the IT area. The managers also commented that barriers are often created through personal beliefs. However, good preparation, dedication and commitment can put an end to these difficulties.

The founding partner of EBS-IT began her career as a programmer and learned from an early age to look for her own personal development and growth, seeking specialization and always going after her goals. Our EPM Head has been working in the technology sector for more than 16 years, and said that she has faced some prejudice, but has always remained focused on learning from situations, not letting difficulties stop her from continuing to expand her career.

Our team also believes that some female characteristics complement the more practical and analytical side needed by IT professionals. Creativity, macro vision and a sense of welcome are just some of the skills that drive a company's growth.

Engaging women in the innovation engine is a necessary action to contribute to the job market. Increasing the diversity and perception of teams is an essential step towards making society fairer and more equal for all.
